Spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding area and enjoy panoramic views before an overnight stay at Mawenzi Tarn.

The trail crosses the lunar desert of the “Saddle” between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This section is relatively flat but offers spectacular views of the stark landscape. Arrive at Kibo Hut in the afternoon, where you’ll prepare for the midnight summit attempt after an early dinner.

The summit attempt begins around midnight, as you ascend to Uhuru Peak. Trek along steep switchbacks to Gilman’s Point and onward to Uhuru Peak, where you’ll witness a breathtaking sunrise. After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Horombo Hut for an overnight stay.
